DISCLAIMER - I am not a recruiter, I'm a senior Product Management/Marketing leader.
Would the ProdCamp be interested in a session on the "The Next Quest - Finding a Job during the Great Recession."
I have worked with numerous displaced PMs and PMMs (and a few sales people) and the rules have significantly changed. I would like to share some current experiences from their journey. What are the new rules? How do I market the Product "Me"? What positioning, techniques and methods are working? What have CEOs said they wish they could tell you before your resume shows up?
Is this a positive session for the ProductCamp?
I'd like your comments.
Jim
Hi Jim,
Since the actual sessions are voted/selected by the attendees at the day of, I think the question is "will people be interested?" I expect this will generate plenty of interest. All the points you're raising seem like rich ground for conversation! Hopefully we can hear a few success stories also.
Completely agree. I would love to share my experiences and learn from yours. Thanks!
Sounds good and coupled with Mara's 'ROI for Product Mangement' - might create an unconference 'PM job hunters 'track'' :-)
This is a topic of interest to me since I'm also a Senior Product Manager who's startup company fell victim to the economy and am looking for a job. I've also been taking some very interesting career coaching and job hunting classes and would love to share what I've learned. Thus I thinkJim's topic is great for a roundtable discussion! It will get one of my votes.
Thanks for your input all. As one who has sought a job recently and helped about a dozen people in their quest, I have some "tried and true" new rules that have worked and could be discussed. I see this as a roundtable and open discussion more than a one-way preso.
Hi Jim, I am on the job market and I am not Product manager. I am expecting from the event to learn new things and meet exciting people but my highest priority is to get some "fuel" for my job search (ideas, contacts, methods etc...) so if your topic is not selected - would expect most PM to be employed - we could find a different way to share your tips and schedule a group meeting outside the event.
I like the idea even though I am employed. I'm actually looking to find a technical marketing manager for my team and would like to hear about the ways that others have gone about finding the right job so that I can make better use of my resources to find the right person for our position.
I for one would love to get your take on this market. Hopefully you can get it posted in time at the event so you can present!
Yes, this market is tough! It would be great to have this topic, but it would be helpful so that it addresses all types of business professionals.
I'm interested. About that expectation mentioned above about most product managers supposedly being employed. Well, not surprised it came from someone who said they're not a PM. : o )
